The Pierre, South Dakota region offers strong educational opportunities that help prepare students for successful careers and support the development of a skilled workforce. Quality schools, dedicated educators, and strong community support make education an important part of the Pierre area’s quality of life and long-term economic growth.

The Pierre School District serves students across the community with multiple elementary schools, a middle school, and T. F. Riggs High School, providing comprehensive K-12 education for families in Pierre and surrounding areas. The district enrolls more than 2,700 students and maintains a strong commitment to helping every student achieve their potential through academic programs, extracurricular activities, and career preparation opportunities.

In addition to public education, families in the region have access to private and specialized schools such as St. Joseph Catholic School.

Post-graduate programming is offered through Capital City Campus, including a Licensed Practical Nursing program boasting a 97 percent placement rate, and an Ag Science program offering a practical introductory education in agriclature. CCC partners with state technical and regental colleges to bring courses to Pierre. Other local programming includes driver eduction and Ed2Go, which offers a menu of online courses designed to help businesses and students meet today’s needs.
